Sally + Elliot's Intimate Marybank Estate Wedding

March 21, 2026 Emma Watts

When Sally and Elliot first reached out, they already knew a little about how we work.

Not because they'd spent months researching Adelaide wedding planners or comparing packages online. Instead, they had experienced two Sparrow weddings firsthand as guests.

After watching friends celebrate stress-free, beautifully organised wedding days, they felt confident reaching out when it was finally their turn.

Their vision was simple: an intimate celebration focused on great food, meaningful conversations, and bringing together the people they loved most. With Elliot's family travelling from the UK and guests joining them from across Australia, creating a warm and welcoming experience was a priority from the very beginning.

For us, it was a privilege to help bring that vision to life.

A Ceremony Beneath the Trees

Marybank Estate in Rostrevor provided the perfect setting for the day.

Fifty guests gathered beneath the trees on the ceremony lawn, surrounded by the soft autumn light and the relaxed atmosphere Sally and Elliot had envisioned. The guest list was intentionally small, allowing them to spend meaningful time with every person who had travelled to celebrate alongside them.

One of Sally's favourite memories from the day was “the ceremony and the recessional, with all of our guests throwing petals for us!”

There was a sense throughout the day that this wasn't about creating a spectacle. It was about creating connection.

A Colourful Celebration Full of Personality

Sally was drawn to bright, joyful colours from the beginning.

Warm sunset tones flowed through the styling, with peach, apricot, orange, pink, yellow and deep red woven throughout the florals. A pop of rich lilac appeared in Sally's bouquet and Elliot's buttonhole, adding another layer of colour and personality.

Sally's gown featured beautifully embroidered floral details, tying seamlessly into the overall design.

The result felt fun, welcoming and a little eclectic - a perfect reflection of the couple themselves.

As experienced providers of wedding planning in Adelaide, one of our favourite parts of the planning process is helping couples create a celebration that feels unmistakably theirs. For Sally and Elliot, colour played a huge role in telling that story.

One Long Table, Fifty Guests

If there was one element that truly defined this wedding, it was dinner.

After pre-dinner drinks, guests made their way onto Marybank's deck where a single long table stretched beneath the wisteria.

Rather than separating guests into multiple tables, everyone shared the same dining experience.

Dinner was served family-style by Sprout Catering, with platters passed around the table and conversations flowing naturally between guests. It created exactly the atmosphere Sally and Elliot had hoped for. Relaxed, intimate and full of connection.

Thoughtful Touches That Brought People Together

Some of our favourite details from the day weren't decorative at all.

During pre-dinner drinks, guests completed crossword puzzles filled with clues about Sally and Elliot, testing how well they knew the couple.

Nearby, a live illustrator painted watercolour portraits of guests to take home as a keepsake. Watching the artwork come to life became a conversation starter in itself and helped guests connect with one another throughout the afternoon.

Even the wedding cake became part of the guest experience. Displayed at Sally and Elliot's places on the long table, it became a focal point before they cut it in front of their guests as they were welcomed into dinner.

Every detail felt personal. Every detail served a purpose.

What It Was Like Planning With Sally + Elliot

One of the comments Sally shared after the wedding has stayed with us:

"We were lucky enough to attend two weddings Emma orchestrated, and they went off without a hitch. Our friends couldn't stop talking about how stress-free and seamless their experience was."

She also told us that one of her favourite parts of working together was receiving curated vendor recommendations that saved countless hours of searching, alongside having someone available to answer questions and provide reassurance throughout the planning process.

For couples considering Adelaide wedding planners, that peace of mind is often one of the biggest benefits. Planning a wedding involves hundreds of decisions, and having experienced guidance can make the process feel far less overwhelming.

But ultimately, this wedding wasn't about planning.

It was about Sally and Elliot.

It was about bringing together family from opposite sides of the world, sharing a meal around one long table, and creating a day that felt warm, relaxed and genuinely meaningful.
